Plant and crane spotters who keep people out of the way.

Spotter with a radio outside the exclusion zone as a mobile crane lifts a precast wall panel

Most plant incidents involve a person the operator could not see. Our spotters watch the swing radius, the travel path and the blind spots, keep the exclusion zone clear, and give the operator clear, agreed signals.

Separation between people and plant.

We agree the signals, the exclusion zone and the communication method with each operator before the first movement.

  • Spotting for excavators, loaders, dozers, rollers, telehandlers and mobile cranes
  • Reversing and travel path spotting for trucks and tippers
  • Exclusion zone set-up and monitoring during lifts and plant movements
  • Radio or hand signal communication agreed with each operator

A clear record of each shift.

Shift records show the plant spotted, the zone kept and every event that needed a warning.

  • Plant spotted, operator, start and finish times
  • Exclusion zone set-up and checks
  • Intrusions, warnings, stop work calls and near misses
  • Photographs of the work area

How pricing works

Quotes are itemised by shift rate, travel, vehicle and equipment, and reporting. Rates are set per spotter per shift, with standby and travel listed separately.

Send the site location, the work program, the plant on site, your preferred dates and any permit or network operator conditions. We confirm scope, availability and price before work is booked.

What a spotter does, and does not do

A spotter has one job: watch the hazard and warn the operator or crew before anyone or anything gets too close. Our spotters do not operate plant, direct traffic as a licensed traffic controller, or take on other site tasks while they are spotting. That focus is what makes the control work.

Spotting supports, and never replaces, the higher order controls in your plan, such as isolation, de-energising, relocation or physical barriers arranged with the asset owner.

Tickets and competencies

Each shift is filled by personnel holding the tickets and competencies the task requires in that state, such as an endorsed spotter or safety observer course, general construction induction, first aid and CPR, and confined space, gas test or heights units where the work calls for them. Copies are supplied with the quote or before mobilisation on request.

Frequently asked questions

Do your spotters act as doggers or riggers?

No. Slinging and directing a crane lift needs a dogging or rigging high risk work licence, and that stays with your licensed crew. Our spotters keep the zone clear and watch for hazards around the lift.

Can a spotter cover more than one machine?

Only where your risk assessment allows it and the machines work close together in clear view. Near powerlines or services, it is one spotter for each item of plant.

Do you supply radios?

Yes. Spotters bring two-way radios and can use your site channel if you prefer.
